Liver Cleansing Diet
This page is all about the liver cleansing diet. There is no ONE diet you should follow to do this successfully, just some basic principles which I will cover shortly.
First however let's just cover the role the liver plays in the body.
The liver is one of the largest organs in the body and main purpose is to filter and cleanse the waste from the things we eat and drink to prevent toxins through in to the blood vessels. If you consider it as a kind of colander which only allows the good or useable parts of the things we consume to pass through. It's a detoxifier that eliminates toxins from our diet for easy removal through our urine, faeces and sweat, but it also creates bile which helps to break down foods in our digestive systems.
The liver is very good at doing this work and can happily keep going without too much trouble all through life. However when it's faced with periods of particularly challenging work such as after heavy drinking sessions, junk food binges or long periods of overeating and weight gain it may well need a bit of hand in its work and the chance to recover.
So on to the basics of a good liver cleansing diet, here are the rules you should follow.
1. Go organic. This is a very important point to consider as many of our foods are force grown using fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals that aren't natural at all. These foreign bodies can cause the build up of toxins in our bodies which places a huge amount of stress on the liver.
2. Don't drink alcohol. Again alcohol is NOT a natural substance for us to consume, one of the side of long term overindulgence of alcohol is cirrhosis of the liver and liver cancers.
3. Think raw and natural. Try to focus on eating as much fresh food as possible. Select nuts, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, pure water
whenever possible.
4. Avoid processed foods like the plague. You absolutely need to forget about eating ready meals or anything processed in any way during a liver
cleansing diet. These simply contain too many sugars, fats and salt to be any use to you. You also can't guarantee they're organic or fresh when prepared.
Start your liver cleansing diet by light fasting for 2 days. During this time drink plenty of water and freshly squeezed fruit vegetable and fruit juices, with no additives at all.
Try to get as much rest as possible when you first start as it's likely that you'll feel tired to begin with. You should continue this way of eating for around 7 days or slightly longer if you feel well enough.
As a welcome benefit of a liver cleansing diet to many is that you may well lose weight and notice a significant improvement in the condition of your hair and skin, so if for no other reason than this you should give it a try, it might make a massive difference to the way you look and feel.

The liver is so important as it is our body’s detoxifying engine. A liver cleanse diet will help because if we don’t cleanse regularly the toxins will continue to build up making us feel tired and sluggish and may lead to other health issues.
A liver cleanse supported by a liver cleanse diet will help to optimize the liver’s functioning. By cleansing on a regular basis and adopting some of the dietary changes you will improve your long term health improvements.

Good advice. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and kale are known to contain substances that can rev up the liver detox pathways. It’s a good idea to make sure you have plenty of these in your liver cleansing diet.
