Is A Fruit Detox A Healthy Option?

Many detoxification plans are downright unhealthy, but what about a fruit detox?

Is this a healthy and effective version?

A fruit detox is basically about eating certain types of foods that don't contain toxins in order for your body to completely eliminate them from your system. A fruit detox or a vegetable detox is not meant to assist you in losing weight, dieting is about burning off more calories than you consume in an attempt to reduce body fat levels, whereas a healthy detox cleanses the body.

Are there any advantages of following a fruit detox plan?

Theoretically you need to select purely organic fruits and the fact that you won't be eating proteins or fats is good because they take much longer to break down. Fruits contain plenty of fibre so the passage of food through the body is quick. This helps to cleanse the digestive system.

However we do need a healthy balance of fats and proteins to function properly.

How To Follow A Fruit Detox

During your fruit detox you should drink plenty of water, shoot for around 8 x 8 oz glasses a day.

Choose non citrus fruits if possible such as pears, apples, grapes etc and eat them in small quantities throughout the day.

It's certainly a good idea to take a vitamin and mineral supplement to cover any shortfalls in your nutrient needs.

It's recommended that you follow a detox for only around 3 - 5 days and a few times a year at most.

Obviously once you have completed your healthy fruit detox diet, you must go back to eating a well balanced diet, high in fruits and vegetables and lean proteins and low in saturated fats, processed foods and sugary stodge.
